Superior Hiking Trail: Pincushion Mountain and the Devil Track River Professional Review and Guide
"We find Pincushion Mountain, which is spectacular, and the Devil Track River gorge, along with the rhyolite the gorge is carved out of, the main highlights of this walk. The stone chair, flume drop, cathedral of red pines, and chasm creek are added extras. Great walk. We are in the Pincushion Mountain parking lot just north of Grand Marais.
From here we have a great view of the town, Artist Point, and Lake Superior. Today it is cloudy and breezy with the wind straight off the lake. The temperature for this late September hike is 60 degrees and probably will not get much warmer. Over the past two days 2.5 inches of rain have fallen, and it was raining when we left Duluth this morning. Now it appears to be rapidly clearing, and we are very grateful."
