Superior Hiking Trail: Devil’s Kettle, Picnic Hill, and the Flute Reed River Professional Review and Guide
"The Brule River, with slumps, meanders, oxbows, waterfalls, and the Devil’s Kettle, along with Picnic Rocks I and II, and the Flute Reed River are the high points of this nice walk; long road section is easy but a bit boring. Early October and the nights are getting colder, crisper, and clearer.
In fact the sky the last few nights has been so clear the stars have turned into hard diamonds and Jupiter and Saturn look like a pair of faraway headlights. Last evening, sitting around the picnic table at our campsite on Nine Mile Lake, Judy and I played connect the dots–celestial dots, sparkling points of light in a clear dark sky. Between the dots we strung imaginary lines that we used to try and create everything from fishers, beavers, and loons to dippers, dragons, and serpents."
