Sawbill Lake Loop

Sawbill Lake Loop Professional Review and Guide

"This trip takes you through some large, busy lakes to a series of smaller, seldom visited lakes and the wild and remote Frost River system. Moose gravitate to the Frost River region and a dozen adults have been sighted on a single trip. The scenery is spectacular. Lake trout, walleyes, or northern pike are found in most all of the lakes. This trip is for the physically fit or groups with discretionary time.

Put in on 944-acre Sawbill Lake and paddle north toward the Ada Creek Portage. The lake is about 5 miles long, and it might take more than half a day to reach Ada Creek. Negotiate the two 80-rod portages on Ada Creek, pass through Skoop Lake, and continue north to the 189-rod portage to Cherokee Creek. Cherokee Creek leads to Cherokee Lake, which has about twenty campsites and offers a place to camp for the first night."
