Devil Track Lake Loop

Devil Track Lake Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Long miles of forest road await in the Superior National Forest, and this loop offers 25 of them with a mix of scenic road riding and a remote trail. The distance is long for a mountain bike ride, and the section through the woods on the North Shore State Trail rattles your bones pretty good. Several options exist here to change gears a bit if you want: Just ride the trail portion as an out-and-back ride, stay on the western forest roads for scenic cruising, or stay closer to “civilization” on the county roads to the east.

The state trail is a very beautiful ride, but the grass is high enough to hide the roots and rocks and holes that make the ride a little taxing. Also, stay alert to the different hunting seasons to avoid taking a bullet, or at least wear your blaze-orange lycra. The campground at Devil Track Lake is a good one, and a fine place to establish your base camp. Tread: Gravel forest road; paved and gravel county road; grassy trail."
