Fort Ridgely State Park

Fort Ridgely State Park Professional Review and Guide

"This fort was the site of attacks during the US- Dakota War of 1862. There are remnants of the fort still visible, with one building restored. The park’s visitor center has displays about the war and the fort itself, and is open in the summer, but the fort’s grounds are open daily to explore the ruins.

There are 8 miles of hiking trails and 10 miles of horse trails, although riders are cautioned to call ahead to check the condition of those trails. A paved trail leads to the nearby town of Fairfax. The campsites are along Fort Ridgely Creek, near the park’s 9-hole golf course. Pets are allowed."
