Secret - Blackstone - Ennis Lake Trail

Secret - Blackstone - Ennis Lake Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Located in the Superior National Forest on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, the Secret-Blackstone-Ennis Lake Trail ascends rocky, glacier-carved ridges that overlook small pothole lakes left by glacial meltwater.

This area is known for fishing, rock climbing, and scenic vistas. Although this is a short hike, take time to catch your breath and linger at some of the beautiful overlooks on this rugged trail."

Nice little snowshoe venture for the wife and I! We had some lunch when we were across the lake. We also watched a learning group across the lake make a Quinshee (sp?) At the beginning of the trail the snow was packed down, but once we got up the hill we were shoeing in powder!

Excellent trail...actually two loops. I took the outside loop and did it in about three hours. Nice scenery, to include watching Beaver and occasionaly running into a grouse or two. Nice overlooks to sit and ponder for a spell. It was a great day for hiking and I met one group of four on the outside loop. This area was involved in the 1999 windstorm and there are a lot of downed trees, but not as many as when I did this trail in 2003. The Forest Service has burned it off, but didn't damage the value of the trail. There are occasional rocky areas and there are rock piles to help keep you on the trail...where it is not so rocky...there are blue trail markers.
