Mudro Lake Loop

Mudro Lake Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Put in at Mudro Lake and paddle down the Horse River to the Basswood River. Follow the Basswood River to Crooked Lake, turn south at Friday Bay, and negotiate a series of small lakes back to the put-in point. View enchanting waterfalls and ancient pictographs. The fishing can be terrific for walleyes, smallmouth bass, northern pike, lake trout, and splake.

Seven campsites are available. With over 1 mile of portaging and 6 miles of paddling behind you, you may want to stop over here before tackling the Horse River. The Horse River has no campsites. Except when the water level is high, over 0.5 mile of portages and 5 miles of paddling lie ahead before the next campsites are encountered on the Basswood River."

First trip to boundary waters and this loop is a good introduction to this area of the country. Has everything you could want from indian pictographs, table rock and great fishing.
