Kawishiwi Lake Loop

Kawishiwi Lake Loop Professional Review and Guide

"This trip offers a very unique opportunity to cross twenty-five lakes and four rivers in a week of paddling. Wild, remote territory is breached, fishing opportunities are endless. You’ll cross the Lake/Cook county lines and the Laurentian Divide. Moose, beaver, and waterfowl are common and wolves are about. Abort the trip at Sawbill Lake and shuttle back to Kawishiwi Lake to save two days of paddling, if you’re worn out.

The trip proceeds north from Kawishiwi Lake through six lakes to Malberg Lake, where it turns east and reaches through eight lakes to Mesaba Lake before heading south through six lakes. At Alton Lake you’ll head west through five lakes back to Lake
Polly before turning south and returning to Kawishiwi Lake.
Kawishiwi Lake covers 400 acres and has a maximum depth of 12 feet. Fishing success for walleye, pike, and northern pike is above average. On the first day you’ll cross from Kawishiwi Lake into Square Lake, Kawasachong Lake, Townline Lake, Lake Polly, Koma Lake, and Malberg Lake, where you’ll camp."
