Lake Shetek State Park Professional Review and Guide
"“Shetek” is the Ojibwe word for pelican, and those birds are in great supply during summer and fall. Lake Shetek is the largest lake in this part of the state, and it’s also the headwaters of the Des Moines River. Walleye, northern pike, and crappie are all plentiful in the lake. A causeway guides visitors to an island on the lake, which has trails with interpretive signs. Altogether there are 14 miles of hiking trails and 6 miles of paved biking trails.
The park also has the Koch Cabin, a historic site and monument from early pioneer years, and notably the US- Dakota War of 1862. The hookup campsites are all on Lake Shetek, while the cart- in and tent- only sites are near Park Lake. Sites are close together but heavily wooded, making them feel more private. Pets are allowed."
