Louisville Swamp, Mazomani Trail

Louisville Swamp, Mazomani Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Before you start this loop, read the interpretive information on the kiosk at the trailhead at the end of the parking lot. There you will find a brief history of the first inhabitants of this area, the Wahpeton, a band of Dakotas whose name means “dwellers.”

The trail followed by this hike bears the name of their leader, Chief Mazomani. Known as Little Rapids, their village was also the site of a trading post built by Jean-Baptiste Faribault in 1802."
