Wild River State Park

Wild River State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Always a great river to paddle, the St. Croix is equally rewarding from a hiker’s perspective. Wild River State Park presents a scenic river walk coupled with a hike through dense stands of Minnesota hardwoods. Beginning at the edge of the river, near the canoe-rental shed, head south from the turnout along the trail, marked in several ways: Amik’s Pond Loop, River Trail, and Deer Creek. All follow the same path from the trailhead sign at the edge of the road.

The trail is a mowed path that follows the river for about 0.2 mile before turning inland. At 0.2 mile, the Amik’s Pond Loop leads off to the right, but stay left along the river for a few more yards before the main trail turns right. Head toward a stand of birches at the back edge of a meadow (check for deer in the early morning) before coming to a T in the trail."
