Interstate State Park, Minnesota Professional Review and Guide

"Though Interstate State Park is now protected, at one time this and the surrounding areas provided a valuable resource for the logging industry. With vast tracks of white pine to the north and a wide river to float them down, the logging industry soon proved to be an economic boon to Minnesota and neighboring Wisconsin.

As Taylors Falls and the surrounding area became increasingly popular with visitors, many people started building in the Dalles section of the St. Croix valley. Recognizing that the beauty and unspoiled nature of the land was threatened with continual development, a bill was introduced and passed in 1894 authorizing the state to work with Wisconsin to acquire land along the river. More than 1,600 acres were set aside between the two states, and Interstate State Park became the first interstate park in the country."
