"Beaver Creek, a tributary of the South Fork River in southeastern Minnesota, has been called one of the most beautiful spring brooks in the state’s southeastern section. Beginning in large springs and owing through extensive watercress beds, this stream lies in one of two major trout areas in the state, the other being the North Shore of Lake Superior. Beaver Creek is one of many rivers and creeks cutting their way through forested valleys and deep gorges where wildlife is prolific. The area’s beauty, with its many hills and hollows, is much akin to parts of the Appalachians or Ozarks of the South. Cold water and a shaded creek valley make this hike a cool oasis on a hot summer day. And fall is an exceptional time to see spectacular color throughout the park. Most of the park’s 8 miles of hiking trails follow the creek, periodically making loops that take you away from the water and up the adjacent bluffs."
