Vermilion River-High Falls to Crane Lake

Vermilion River-High Falls to Crane Lake Professional Review and Guide

"The final stretch of the Vermillion is predominately quiet, but it includes two of the river's most distinctive rapids. Once again the Vermilion starts out with a bang. Not yet out of sight of the Forest Road 491 bridge, it gathers, glides swiftly, and plunges over The Chute (river mile 3.8), a twisting 10-foot drop over a ledge and large boulders.

Don’t get pushed into the undercut cliff on either side of this rapids. The Chute rates Class III in low water and up to Class V at very high levels, when the waves become explosive and the current exceedingly pushy."
