Mississippi River-Brainerd to Little Falls Professional Review and Guide
"No longer a small stream, the broad Mississippi flows swiftly through the mixed forest and fields of central Minnesota. Fishing can be great on this section. With deep holes, rocky riffles, and woody cover in deep bends, this section of river provides great fishing for smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, and even muskies.
The Mississippi River leaves Brainerd as a sizable stream with a sometimes swift current. Dozens of islands in this stretch were created when sawlogs, floated to mills a century ago, jammed on shoals or in bends. Sediment swirled into the eddies created by the obstructions and eventually buried the logs, forming islands."
