Lake Elmo State Park Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Billings Heights is a geological benchland that rises above the Yellowstone River Valley. Lake Elmo State Park, located at the north end of Billings Heights, encompasses 1 23 acres. The centerpiece of the park is the beautiful 64- acre manmade lake built in 1 906. Water is diverted from the Yellowstone River west of Laurel and travels 30 miles through canals to the Heights, feeding the lake. The recreational park offers sandy beaches for swimming, picnicking, fishing, paddleboating, wind surfing, canoeing, and sailboating. An interpretive nature trail with lakeside benches circles the 1 .3-mile shoreline."
