Haakwood State Forest Campground Professional Review and Guide
"The Sturgeon River is the Lower Peninsula’s fastest flowing river, and it makes its serpentine way through this state forest campground. The sites are close to the water, making it attractive to paddlers, and anglers can find brown and rainbow trout here. The 62-mile North Central State Trail (formerly the Gaylord to Mackinaw City Trail) shared by hikers and bikers is a converted rail bed with crushed limestone that runs right past the park. The campsites vary in tree coverage from wide open and grassy to quite shaded, but they are spread out nicely to give some privacy."
