Ontonagon River, Middle Branch

Ontonagon River, Middle Branch Professional Review and Guide

"Canoeable throughout the summer, this river offers a mix of placid water and light rapids as it carries paddlers through scenic U.P. lowlands. The Middle Branch of the Ontonagon River is a pleasant stream that is popular with both canoeists and anglers.

Its popularity among paddlers is due in part to the fact that it is the only tributary of the Ontonagon—and one of the few rivers in the western U.P.—that has regular livery service. Anglers, meanwhile, roam the river in search of the trout that haunt its murky waters. But the Middle Branch still sees far less traffic than Lower Peninsula streams, and peaceful stretches of river are always plentiful."
