Pigeon River

Pigeon River Professional Review and Guide

"A beautiful trout stream with a wilderness feeling and an unpredictable character. The crystal-clear waters of the Pigeon River flow northward through the 98,000-acre Pigeon River Country State Forest, home to Michigan’s thriving elk herd. One of the most remote and unspoiled wilderness areas remaining in the Lower Peninsula, the state forest also provides prime habitat for black bears, deer, bobcats, pine martens, bald eagles, and a variety of other wildlife.

The river adds to this wild character with a relatively swift current and a number of sharp bends. It is also subject to fallen trees, logjams, and beaver dams that are no longer cleared regularly, as the main livery that used to service the river quit to focus its business on the nearby Sturgeon."
