Back in 1917, Interlochen became Michigan’s first state park, preserving 200 acres that included some of the last virgin pine left after the logging era. Now it is one of the largest state park campgrounds. As the name suggests, the park is located between lakes: Duck Lake and Green Lake, which have a modern and a rustic campground, respectively. Each camp has boat access to its respective lake. A nature trail has 1 mile for hikers to explore. To the north and south of the park, as well as around both lakes, is residential development.
