Just 20 minutes from Traverse City and you can be in wilderness. This campground is just inside some hilly terrain of mostly hardwoods, especially oaks. Just to the north of Arbutus Lake, which is at the upper end of a small chain of lakes, the rustic camp has good shade and privacy but short sites for the trailer crowd. The boat launch is down a separate road from the campsites. Go farther east on Arbutus Lake Road to find it. The lake offers anglers bass, perch, pike, and bluegill. Hikers have nothing on-site, but Sand Lakes Quiet Area 10 miles northeast has hiking and mountain biking, while Vasa Trail 4 miles northeast runs 16.7 miles.
