Carp River

Carp River Professional Review and Guide

"A pretty, twisty river that passes through the Mackinac Wilderness and Hiawatha National Forest. The Carp River is a designated Wild and Scenic River that is ideal for early season overnight expeditions.

Easily accessible (by U.P. standards, at least), the Carp winds through Hiawatha National Forest for nearly all of its canoeable length, offering up numerous shoreline campsites along the way. The surrounding terrain is a pleasant blend of wetlands and dense forest, and the river corridor supports a tremendous variety of wildlife."

We kayaked from the campground to the mouth of the river on Oct 15, '05. The colors were beautiful, there were lots of salmon in the river and we encountered no other people. However, the river was very low and we got hung up on most of the rapids.
