Rifle River State Recreation Area: Spruce Campground Professional Review and Guide
"In the northern half of the Lower Peninsula, few rivers can live up to the reputation of the Au Sable. The river is celebrated for its beauty as much as its recreational value. This close to the Au Sable, you can see why it’s easy to miss another of Michigan’s great waterways, the Rifle River.
The watershed boundary of these two rivers traces a meandering path through northern Ogemaw County. Once used as a shortcut for running lumber down to mills on Saginaw Bay, the Rifle has become a destination river in its own right."
