Lime Island

Lime Island Professional Review and Guide

"A unique vacation spot nestled in the heart of the lower St. Mary’s River. Lime Island has only recently emerged as a popular destination for Great Lakes kayakers. For many years, the island was known primarily as a fueling station for Great Lakes freighters.

In the mid-1980s, however, its corporate owners donated it to the state. DNR officials subsequently devised a management plan that successfully transformed the island and its fading facilities into an unassuming but relaxing getaway spot. Today, Lime Island offers an appealing cocktail of wilderness and rustic comfort for experienced paddlers."
