North Country Trail: Kipp Road to Van Road Professional Review and Guide
"This epic ride is perfect in the spring, when trilliums line the trail and morel hunters shout greetings as you cruise by. Where spring and summer are lush with ferns and trees bending to touch the path, fall finds the forest in a frenzy of orange, red, and gold. The return route includes dirt and paved roads and passes by a Michigan Centennial Farm on Larks Lake Road and the Pellston Correctional Facility, probably Michigan’s prettiest prison setting.
Although this route is a loop, it is easy to make it an out-and-back ride. Simply cut the ride short at any point, but don’t miss cruising down those first 3 grueling miles. This downhill section just might be the most exhilarating in Michigan, but control your speed and be aware of other bikers and hikers on this popular stretch of the well-marked North Country Trail (NCT). Tread: 17.8 miles of singletrack, 0.8 mile of doubletrack, 3.7 miles of dirt road, 13.8 miles of paved road."
