Maple Bay State Forest Campground Professional Review and Guide
"This campground is right on the shore of a bay on the west side of Burt Lake, named for a 19th-century surveyor of the area. Burt Lake is 10 miles, north to south, and 5 miles at its widest point. Boat access here is great, and the sandy beach makes for good swim- ming. But the larger story is that Burt Lake is part of the Inland Lakes Waterway, a series of lakes and rivers that connects Lake Michigan and Lake Huron right across the northern reaches of the state. Anglers will be interested in the resident lake sturgeon. Hikers should check out nearby Cha- boiganing Nature Preserve. The sites are shaded in 2 loops extending from the lake. The sites at the end overlook the water."
