Pretty Lakes Quiet Area

Pretty Lakes Quiet Area Professional Review and Guide

"This remote weekend getaway destination features five small and undeveloped lakes protected by no-motor regulations. Pretty Lakes Quiet Area is an unassuming little paddling sanctuary that is ideal for overnight and weekend camping excursions. The five lakes that form the heart of this recreation area are small and can easily be explored during the course of a day.

Connected by short portages, they offer clear, cold water and unspoiled sandy shorelines of white pine, spruce, cedar, and poplar. Regulations forbidding the use of motors on the lakes add to the sense of tranquility and solitude that prevails on these waters. Overall, these attributes may not be sufficient to attract canoeists who prefer extended wilderness expeditions. But if you are a paddler who is simply looking for a peaceful spot to paddle, fish, hike, and camp for a day or two, then this is a destination well worth checking out."

Great area! We portaged back into one of the most remote campsites for more "wilderness" camping. It was very isolated yet there is a pitcher pump, outhouse and picnic table - pretty cushy for a wilderness camp. Nice fire rings, no grates and plenty of down firewood near camp. We hit the world's worst week of mosquitoes but I'm sure they're not always that bad. I'd definitely go back.

It is indeed "Pretty Lake"!!!! We got out of our vehicle and were greeted with the sounds of loons. This is an incredibly beautful area.....remote, quiet, easy portages to four other lakes. We saw a few folks cavorting on the beach, there is a campground there, at Pretty Lake, but once we left that lake it was us and only two other kayakers. Loons on one other lake and an eagle flew into view on our way back across Pretty Lake. Nice campsite, we picked blueberies, on another lake that has three sites and an outhouse. That would be a great place to set up camp and paddle there and the other lakes. You have to take a dirt/gravel road to get to area, but it is in pretty good shape and well worth it. I would go back to the area very frequently if it weren't so far away from home.....five hours.
