Grand Island National Recreation Area

Grand Island National Recreation Area Professional Review and Guide

"A wonderful kayaking alternative to Pictured Rocks, Grand Island offers sandy beaches, protected bays, historic lighthouses, and breathtaking sandstone palisades. Grand Island is one of Michigan’s top sea-kayaking destinations.

Formerly the home of Ojibwa Indians and French trappers, the island rivals nearby Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the beauty and grandeur of its rugged shoreline. Its forested interior, meanwhile, supports black bear, deer, grouse, and a wide range of waterfowl, and features miles of hiking/biking trails that attract visitors from all around the state."

Awesome trip - lots of waterfalls, and sand stone cliffs. There are some great beach camp sites in the bay.
