Whitehall-Montague's Old Channel Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This ride has so many outstanding features that it's hard to mention them all: the largest weathervane in the world; a piece of the Hart-Montague Bicycle Trail State Park; great vistas of the shores of White Lake and Lake Michigan; historic White River Light Station Museum; and roads filled with rolling hills, curves, and tall trees that provide shade for the ride. Things to see: World's largest weathervane, White Lake, Lake Michigan, Hart-Montague Bicycle Trail State Park.
There are two ways to begin this scenic ride. The 16.7-mile loop follows the busy road of Business U.S. 31 to Weathervane Park, site of the famous weathervane, on the banks of White Lake. This hand-formed aluminum weathervane stands 48 feet tall and weighs 4,300 pounds. Whitehall-Montague is home to two of the largest manufacturers of weathervanes, so it’s fitting to find the largest one ever made here. This loop passes Whitehall Products and Old Century Forge, both with their roofs adorned with every shape and size of weathervane.
The main loop (16.4 miles) eschews traffic, sticking to quieter Old Channel Trail."
