Proud Lake Recreation Area

Proud Lake Recreation Area Professional Review and Guide

"The Huron River Valley in metropolitan Oakland County provides the focal point for this major recreation area just minutes from downtown Detroit. The park was established in the mid-1940s and has changed very little in the past fifty years. It continues to be one of the most utilized and most scenic of the state's recreation areas. The mix of environments provides a unique opportunity to view and photograph myriad species occupying everything from marshes, bogs, and other wetlands to meadows to upland forests that cover much of the area. For hikers with fishing fever, the Huron River offers a great opportunity to catch rainbow and brown trout.

The 3,614 acres of the Proud Lake Recreation Area contain blue-ribbon trout fishing. Weekend hikers will find more than enough to keep them busy: exploring nature trails, taking off on a crosspark excursion, or conveniently wandering along the river and wetting a line. Birders have the opportunity to visit nearly every type of ecosystem found in the state within the confines of the recreation area, and ponds and impoundments attract migratory birds each spring and fall. Special attractions: Photo opportunities, wildlife, fishing."

A beautiful trail, very well maintained and easy to follow. Aside from an occasional hunter, it was serene and peaceful
A simply beautiful trail. The only downside is that you can hear highway traffic in the distance. Otherwise, there is a high diversity in ecology. Every turn brings a new plant or tree into view. Paths are easy to follow and trail is maintained well. One of the best in Michigan.
