Yankee Springs State Recreation Area: Deep Lake Rustic Campground Professional Review and Guide
"Rustic campgrounds in Michigan tend to be low-key. Typically the national or state forest service will plot a couple dozen sites near a lake or river, dig a pit or two for vault toilets, drill a hole for a hand-pumped well, and throw up a sign welcoming campers to XYZ Campground.
It’s a formula that works and has come to define a level of roughing it that is replicated all over the state. If a campground grows much larger than this, you start finding flush toilets and hot showers, and then it’s not long before someone is paving sites for RVs and closing sites to build comfy minicabins for the tentless."
