Yankee Springs Recreation Area Professional Review and Guide

"Bopping in and out of trees and rolling along a picturesque ridgeline, this fun and fast mountain bike–only trail cruises among tall red pines and past the Devil’s Soup Bowl, a sunken area surrounded by thick trees. The most strenuous climbs come in the middle section, as the trail rolls above a ravine on a narrow ridge.

The popular, buffed trail is marked with numbered posts and arrows, making it virtually impossible to get lost. Riders, however, will find plenty of other challenges, including log jumps and rutted ascents and descents with sandy runouts. Rubber mats in the sandiest sections help riders climb particularly steep hills. Cyclists who want to cut the ride short have several options. Tread: 12.9 miles of singletrack, 0.2 mile of dirt road."

Find the trailhead at the parking area for the Long Lake Outdoor Center. The trail swings by Hall Lake, then there is a moderate and steady ascent to the top of the Devil's Soup Bowl, an old and steep sinkhole. You can hike around the Devil's Soup Bowl. If you do, go counter-clockwise, as there is a steep descent to the saddle between the Devil's Soup Bowl and an adjoining, smaller sinkhole. The trail is well-marked.
This trail is a good workout if you do the entire trail. There are a lot of steep up and downhills. There is a lot sand that is difficult to get through if you are going to slow. Halfway through its time to sweat, Alot of steep hills. If you are brave enough go check out the Devils Soup Bowl. Quite challenging!!
