Echo Lake Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"As many times as I’ve visited Echo Lake, I still have the sense that the lake itself is unknowable. At its deepest point, the lake is 70 feet deep, which means that, roughly, a seven-story building could hide beneath its surface. I continue to find this fact fascinating.
Often mergansers drift across the lake’s surface and if you’re here after dark, you may be lucky enough to hear wolves howling from somewhere nearby. Deer tracks dot the marshy areas on the north shore. Sugar maples, hemlock, and oak trees dominate the forest, and bedrock looms dramatically over and into the lake."
