Portage Bay State Forest Campground Professional Review and Guide
"For some guaranteed seclusion, check out the Garden Peninsula, the finger of land reaching down into Lake Michigan toward Wisconsin’s Door County Peninsula. This row of shaded rustic sites lines up with a remote beach facing east to the open water. Sites have little more than a fire ring and table and are steps from the sand. What keeps this place quiet and nearly empty at times is the drive to get here. The road in is a narrow, low-clearance, tight-turn, single-lane gravel road winding nearly 10 miles to the campground. Some have gotten in here with big rigs but likely left without some paint or even a mirror. Kayakers can jump right in and go."
