Colwell Lake National Forest Campground Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Located within the Hiawatha National Forest, the campground is situated on the eastern shore of a 145-acre lake. The campsites are arranged on either side of a park road that follows the curve of the shore, giving about half of all the sites a perfect perch over the water. A couple of walk-in sites make for an easy backpacker experience not far from the vehicle. Anglers can expect largemouth bass, northern pike, crappie, sunfish, perch, and bluegill. Hiking is partly along the lake, with 2 miles of easy trail. The beach is large and sandy, making this a popular swimming hole."
