Wilderness State Park

Wilderness State Park Professional Review and Guide

"Rugged shoreline and a chain of small islands make Wilderness State Park a notable Lake Michigan kayaking destination. Situated on the northwestern tip of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, Wilderness State Park boasts miles of undeveloped Great Lakes shoreline.

Both Sturgeon Bay, which lies on the southwestern side of the park, and Big Stone Bay, which opens into the Straits of Mackinac, are fine kayaking destinations. Most paddlers visiting the park, however, concentrate their attention on its northwest side, where Waugoshance Point and a small chain of islands trail away into Lake Michigan’s deeper waters."
