Big Mac Shoreline Ramble

Big Mac Shoreline Ramble Professional Review and Guide

""Big Mac" is the Mackinac Bridge, when connects upper and lower Michigan. The towering structure is one of the world's greatest bridges. Completed in 1957, it put a road over the crossroads of the Great Lakes. The straits are where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron meet and near where the St. Mary River pours forth the waters of defense. In the past the straits were a key point for trade and defense. Today tourism draws people to the straits, including hundreds of bicyclists who ride the 100-, 75-, 50- and 25-mile routes of the Big Mac Shoreline Scenic Bike Tour on the second weekend of June and September.

If you're a history buff, the island's fort and other historic sites are as interesting as Fort Michilimackinac at Mackinaw City. As either location you have to try one of the many restaurants where fresh Great Lakes whitefish is the main fare. It's a short time from lake to plate in this area where commercial fishing boats still ply the waters each day."
