Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area: Dispersed Campground Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This wilderness area offers campers the opportunity to pitch a tent outside the confines of a formal campground. In 1987, Congress passed the Michigan Wilderness Act, which identified regions within Michigan’s national forests that were worthy of being restored to a natural state. The law created wilderness areas that have changed the state’s landscape, so to speak, for those who appreciate an unspoiled experience of undeveloped of nature.
Today, more than 30 years later, not everyone has heard of the Horseshoe Bay Wilderness or the Big Island Lake Wilderness, but it’s hard to imagine a Michigan without the Upper Peninsula’s Sylvania Wilderness Area or the Lower Peninsula’s Nordhouse Dunes."
