Pickerel Lake is known best for its pan fishing, and while the camp- ground has a boat ramp, there are also other nearby lakes worth fishing, including Manistee Lake. The sites are shaded, private but large enough only for a small trailer. The lakeshore is lightly developed. ORV enthusiasts have Kalkaska Trail to the south, and the Manistee River is 8 miles northeast, though paddlers should prefer sites right on the river.
