Hill Street Trails Professional Review and Guide
"The aptly named Hill Street Trails are part of the impressive Range Mountain Bike Trail System, which also includes the nearby Al Quaal Recreation Area and Suicide Bowl Trails. Developed during 1997, the system boasts about 25 miles of trails, mostly cross-country skiing routes, and is currently in a transitory state. With the Cleveland Cliffs mining company reopening operations on its land used for the Suicide Bowls and new, exciting trails in development near the Al Quaal Recreation Area, this trail system will be putting a new face forward in the next year or so. The Hill Street Trails, however, are firmly rooted in their rugged doubletrack past.
The route described here follows the perimeter of the system up and down steep hills and past inland lakes and offers views of the Tilden Mine. This ride is best done during a dry spell, since mud is often a problem. It is also a route-finding challenge with minimal signage. A few ridiculously steep hills highlight the difficult Sandi’s Loop, and trees touch overhead in places for a tunnel effect. Tread: 6.2 miles of wide trails and doubletracks."
