Ontonagon River, East Branch

Ontonagon River, East Branch Professional Review and Guide

"Runnable for only a few weeks of the year, this river offers continuous whitewater thrills in a wild setting. The East Branch of the Ontonagon River is home to one of the most intense, sustained whitewater runs in all of Michigan.

Most of this stream’s 60-mile length is impassable at any time of year, due to massive deadfalls, beaver dams, and narrow, rocky stretches. But as it surges northward from its origins in Iron County to join the Middle Branch, its last few miles open up sufficiently to create an exciting and dramatic whitewater run through a strikingly rugged piece of northern wilderness."
