Isle Royale National Park, Inland Lakes Professional Review and Guide

"A network of pristine lakes cradled in the heart of rugged and remote Isle Royale National Park. Isle Royale National Park is one of Michigan’s greatest natural treasures. A rough-hewn wilderness paradise that juts out of the northern reaches of icy Lake Superior, the park features both unspoiled lakes and coves and deep swamps and forestlands, all laid over a rocky foundation of rugged ridges and valleys. The island also nurtures a wonderfully diverse array of wildlife, including eagles, peregrine falcons, loons, hooded mergansers, great blue herons, otters, beavers, red foxes, and snowshoe hares. Isle Royale’s most famous inhabitants, however, are its moose and wolf populations.

The fortunes of these two species have been closely intertwined ever since the winter of 1948–1949, when timber wolves first wandered across the frozen ice of Lake Superior to make the island their home. A half-century later, ongoing scientific studies of the predator-prey relationship between these two majestic creatures continue to provide valuable insights into each species’ behavioral patterns and way of life."
