Pyramid Point Loop

Pyramid Point Loop Professional Review and Guide

"The Pyramid Point Loop blends all the various environments that make up the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore with spectacular vistas as far as the eye can see.

From the trailhead the hike meanders toward the sandy shoreline of Lake Michigan along a deserted two-track road and over glacial moraines that have given root to a beech-and-maple forest. The trees act as barriers against winds off the lake. The hike for the first few hundred yards is through a fairly level meadow, but the trail begins to climb as you near the trees.

Special attractions: Lookout Point, from which hikers can see the shipwreck of the Morazan, south Manitou Island and its lighthouse, North Manitou Island, the Manitou Shoals, South Fox Island, and Pyramid Point, as well as a great view of the surrounding country. This is a favorite launch site for hang glider pilots."

A very nice trail. Pyramid Point was popular, but the rest of the trail was lightly used. The trail was well-maintained, and included the lookout, woods, and meadows.
