Days River Pathway

Days River Pathway Professional Review and Guide

"The Days River Pathway is a nearly 9-mile loop course through typical Upper Peninsula ecosystems, including wet river lowlands and heavily forested uplands. Hikes along the longest loop or any of the smaller loops in the area can be handled by casual hikers, yet are challenging enough to hold the attention of more experienced hikers. The area offers quiet serenity, accessible from major highways.

For a family hike, it is probably one of the best places in northern Michigan. The area is simply a "walk through a forest," to quote a state forest official in Gladstone. The only history along these loops is natural history, provided by the changing faces of the terrain and varying ecosystems found along the trail. White-tailed deer and other animals can be found here, along with a large number of songbirds that are seen quite often along the pathway. For those adventurous enough to make a cross-country trek, the nearby Days River offers brook trout and other aquatic life. In fall, the area is ablaze in color, presenting photographers with plenty of opportunities to fill frame after frame. Special attractions: Fall color, wildlife, birds."
