Fayette Historic State Park Professional Review and Guide
"Between 1867 and 1891 on these park grounds was an iron smelting operation. The massive furnace complex can be seen, and the town has been redone as a sort of living museum. The park overlooks Big Bay de Noc from the eastern side of it and Snail Shell Harbor. The campground is also along the shore but to the south of the historic site. The forest is maple and beech and offers 5 miles of trails with Lake Michigan scenic overlooks. Fishing is good from shore, but there is also a boat launch not far from the camp. Scuba diving affords a look at some artifacts in the harbor. The second Saturday of August hosts an annual heritage day celebration."
