Ford River

Ford River Professional Review and Guide

"This lively U.P. river is an ideal springtime destination for winter-weary canoeists with an itch to scratch. The Ford River is a relatively unheralded but nonetheless delightful Upper Peninsula river that offers fine day-trip opportunities from late April through early June. During those few weeks, spring runoff swells the Ford’s volume to levels that make it a swift and spirited river.

As summer approaches, though, the stream’s water level drops significantly and the river becomes a much less enjoyable river to float. Indeed, bump-and-scrape conditions typically prevail through significant sections of the stream by early summer. Explore the Ford in springtime, then, when its cold, clear waters are still foaming and jumping."
