Platte River Campground—Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Platte River Campground—Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Professional Review and Guide

"Another of the magnificent Sleeping Bear Dunes campgrounds, this is surely its most popular, filling throughout the summer every night. But it is better suited for those planning ahead than the first-come, first-served D. H. Day Campground. Reservations went so fast on a limited number of sites that the park expanded reservable campsites to two-thirds of the total sites. Reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance for the period from the first Friday in May until October 1. The rustic sites are excellent, and a few hike-in sites give a back- country experience without the effort of getting to the Manitou Islands."

Trail ran on this starting at post 11 on Peterson road clockwise staying right at post 5. Is about a 7 mile loop. Single track trail is easy with only short areas as difficult. I tacked on about 5 extra miles of easy jogging on Lasso and Peterson dirt roads. Recommend taking the scenic outlook where the rail grade path ends out onto Lake Michigan beach. Beautiful spot to take in sleeping bear dunes in the distance, windswept beaches, and crashing waves. You can drive to end of Peterson has beach access to swim and cool off.
