Mount Lookout

Mount Lookout Professional Review and Guide

"This ride has the feel of a Western-style trail: a steep climb ending with spectacular views. The climbing begins almost as soon as you turn off the main road onto a rough snowmobile trail. A sand trap at the beginning of the ride forces most cyclists off their bikes, and the obstacles increase the higher you go.

The doubletrack, however, is wide enough to allow riders to cycle around most of the rocks. Views begin at about 2.8 miles; 1 mile later you have arrived at the top of Mount Lookout. On a clear day Isle Royale National Park is visible to the north. Lake Bailey looms below you, while the forest wraps around Mount Lookout like a sea. Consider cycling past your car after your fast descent off the mountain and follow the signs to the Eagle Harbor Museum and Lighthouse. Tread: 0.8 mile of paved road, 6.8 miles of doubletrack."
