Eagle Harbor to Agate Harbor

Eagle Harbor to Agate Harbor Professional Review and Guide

"Like other Keewenaw towns, Eagle Harbor got its start from one of the nearby and short-lived mines, but it survived after the mine closed by serving as a harbor for ships carrying supplies for other inland mines. It has an old lighthouse that has also been converted into a museum (actually three museums: maritime, copper mining, and local history), and a good swimming beach inside the harbor."

Part of the larger Keweenaw Water Trail, this segment is an outstanding day trip destination. This part of the Keweenaw is most like that of the Peninsula''s sister rock, Isle Royale. The natural harbor of Eagle Harbor, the finger bays and coves of Agate Harbor and chain of unihabited barrier islands between them is a great day paddle destination. Keweenaw Adventure Company in Copper Harbor, offers guided tours here throughout the summer and into the fall. Note: This area is inhabited and public landings are limited......the larger islands are private as well as most of the shoreline. The Eagle Harbor Marina, public beach and Esrey Park are the best places to launch & land from.
