Windsor/Detroit: Kayak Cove to the Ambassador Bridge Professional Review and Guide
"This trip also combines great views of the Detroit and Windsor waterfront with a chance to explore the two island parks, Belle Isle and Peche Island (see Rte. 21). As you travel from Kayak Cove on the Detroit River, you will pass not only the two island parks, but several Windsor waterfront parks, including Coventry Gardens and the International Peace Fountain. The International Peace Fountain is a giant floating fountain located in the river near Coventry Gardens in Windsor.
In summer the fountain pumps 15,000 gallons per minute and shoots streams of water 70 feet in the air, with pulsating jets and colored lights. I researched the route too late in the season to see it, but I have it on good authority that it is great fun for kayakers—almost as much fun as it was running through the sprinkler as a kid! Past the islands you paddle along the core of downtown Detroit, including the Renaissance Center, a group of tall modern buildings eighty-one stories high, covered with forty-two acres of glass."
